3 SITES OF AFRICAN CULTURE AND BIODIVERSITY

All three sites—the Historic Town and Archaeological Site of Gedi in Kenya, the Gedeo Cultural Landscape in Ethiopia, and the Forest Massif of Odzala-Kokoua in the Republic of the Congo—have been added to the UNESCO World Heritage List for their significant value to humanity. Gedi represents a 10th-to-17th-century Swahili trade settlement with well-preserved ruins and artifacts, while the Gedeo Cultural Landscape showcases the Gedeo people's traditional, sustainable agroforestry practices and sacred sites. Finally, Odzala-Kokoua is one of Africa’s oldest national parks, home to a diverse population of primates and other animals within the world’s second-largest rainforest.
